Tuition Exchange Program

Occidental College participates in the Tuition Exchange Program, which provides national undergraduate scholarship opportunities for dependent children of regular status faculty, administrators and staff who have completed *at least five years of continuous, full-time service to the College. In addition, employees who do not have an undergraduate degree may qualify for undergraduate scholarship opportunities for themselves. Approximately 600 member institutions nationwide participate in Tuition Exchange (TE).

*Newly hired full-time regular status employees who were eligible for the TE benefit at their most recent employer will be eligible to apply for the scholarship upon hire with Occidental College, provided that Oxy’s Human Resources Department receives written verification of eligibility from the previous employer’s Human Resources Department or TE Liaison.

Under this program, students apply for admission directly to member institutions and employees apply for certification with their employing institution. Each member institution strives to maintain a balance between the number of students they certify to attend other institutions (exports) and the number of TE scholarships they award to incoming students (imports). Ultimately, each institution determines the appropriate number of employees who may be certified as exports and the number of accepted students to be granted TE scholarships as imports to their institution.

Even though the College certifies individuals under this plan, it is up to the member institutions to actually award the TE scholarships as part of the admission process. Some schools are extremely competitive.

If you wish to apply for TE certification for the 2022-2023 academic year, the deadline is November 30, 2021. Should the College be given a limit on the number of TE Scholarships that can be submitted through the TE Scholarship program, priority for submitting an application will be based on employee’s years of continuous full-time service with the College and the employee’s current participation in the TE program.

A TE application and certification will be given to only one eligible dependent per employee at a time (once every four years). TE EZ Application Instructions can be found at: https://www.oxy.edu/sites/default/files/assets/tuition_exchange_online_application_process_for_eligible_families.pdf.

Contact Karen Salce at x2945 if you have any questions about this program. Printed copies of this information will be made available by Human Resources.
